Helen A. Wise, age 93, resident of 309 East 1st Street, Waterford, PA died Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Edinboro Manor, Edinboro, PA after a period of failing health. She lived most of her adult life in Waterford. Born on August 4, 1914 in Waterford, PA, she was a daughter of the late Mark Briggs and Edna McClellan Briggs. On October 21, 1933 she married Harold Gordon Wise and he died on May 6, 1999.
In younger years, Helen worked as a cashier at various Eckerd Drug stores in the Erie area and later at Heard’s Drug Store in Waterford. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Waterford and after her husband retired, she enjoyed traveling with him in their motor home across the United States.
Preceding Helen in death in addition to her parents and her husband of 66 years were two sons – Robert Wise and Kenneth Wise; and two brothers – Melvin Briggs and Herbert Briggs. Surviving family members include a daughter – Ruth Ann Wolf and her husband, Mark of Waterford; a daughter-in-law – Shirley Wise of Waterford; six grandchildren – Michael Wise; Bruce Wise and his wife, Cathy; Dale Wise and his wife, Laurie; Charles Cowley,Jr.; James Cowley and his wife, Kathy all of Waterford; and Susan McNelis and her husband, Michael of Erie; thirteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Saturday from 11:00 until 1:00. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Dennis Fetter, pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Waterford Cemetery.
