Ezekiel A. Charlton Jr., age 82, of Summit Township, died Monday, May 5, 2008 at Forestview Healthcare Center at Springhill. Born on October 12, 1925 in Stump Creek, PA, he was a son of the late Ezekiel A. and Elizabeth Brown Charlton.
Mr. Charlton served in the US Navy during World War II and then worked as a machinist at Copes-Vulcan for 41 years until his retirement in January 1990. He was a former Assistant Chief for the Perry Hi-Way Hose Company and was a lifetime member of the Sunflower Club and a member of the American Legion, Carl Neff Post. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a former committee member of Boy Scout Troop 71.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Melva Charlton, whom he married July 16, 1949 and who died July 18, 1991; two sisters, Cynthia Charlton and Myra Foradori Roberts; and two brothers, George and Clyde Charlton.
Survivors in his family include six children: Dane Charlton and his wife Jill of Erie, Gregory Charlton and his wife Becky of Sitka, Alaska, Keith Charlton of Summit Township, Richard Charlton and his wife Mary of Cambridge Springs, Cynthia Charlton of Polk, PA, and Beverly Charlton of Summit Township; also 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, a sister Elizabeth Valentine and her husband Joe of North Tonawanda, NY, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home, West First and Walnut Streets, Waterford, on Wednesday from 2-5 and 7-9pm and may attend the funeral service there on Thursday at 11:00am officiated by Rev. Dr. Dwayne Cole of the Waterford First Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at Waterford Cemetery. Memorials may be designated to the American Cancer Society.
