Albert W. “Bert” Kovschak, age 84, of 3355 Rice Road, Edinboro, died Monday, May 12, 2008 at Saint Vincent Health Center. Born in Peck, Michigan on February 10, 1924, he was a son of the late Anthony and Anna Kuvik Kovschak. He married Ruby Showman on June 4, 1944 and she survives.
Kovschak, Albert W. Mr. Kovschak was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Army in the Pacific Theater, the Philippines, and Korea. After returning home from the service, he took airplane flying lessons at the Port Erie Airport which started for him a lifelong interest and passion in airplanes. He worked as a flight instructor for several years and enjoyed piloting his own airplane from an airstrip on his property. He also worked at GAF in Erie, and upon moving to Sarasota, FL in 1976, he worked as a machine technician until his retirement in 1990 when he and his wife returned back to Edinboro. His other interests included anything outdoors, hunting, fishing, and most of all, his family.
He is preceded in death by a son, William “Bill” Kovschak, and three sisters and three brothers. Surviving family members include his wife, Ruby Showman Kovschak; his son, Paul Kovschak and wife Tina of Lewistown, PA; his granddaughter, Nicole McMillin and husband Fred C. McMillin, also of Lewistown; a brother, John Kovschak of Waterford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home, 306 Erie Street, Edinboro on Friday from 3:00pm until the funeral service at 4:00pm. Interment will be in Edinboro Cemetery.
