Doris M. “Millie” Whipple, age 83, of 7888 Clemens Road, Union City, and formerly of Waterford, died at her home on Thursday night, May 22, 2008. Born on March 28, 1925 in Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Charles J. and Crystelle E. Hewitt McKay.
Whipple, Doris M. Millie was a homemaker who devoted her life to her family. She was the cherished wife for almost 61 years of Leroy H. Whipple, whom she married July 26, 1947, and she was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. Family gatherings such as picnics, birthday parties, and holidays, were always a priority, with family sing-a-longs being her favorite event. She enjoyed music, reading, feeding and watching birds, and her bowling league and card club. For many years, she and her husband lived in Florida where she liked to spend time walking on the beach and collecting seashells. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her loving and friendly personality.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Cornelia Barton, her parents-in-law, Henry and Hazel Whipple, a son-in-law, Bob Bailey, and two brothers-in-law, Darrell Owens and Ted Barton.
Family members that survive are her husband, Leroy H. Whipple; her son, Larry L. Whipple and his wife Sandra of Union City; two daughters, Linda C. Bailey of McKean and Judy M. Wheeler and her husband Scot of Canton, MO; 5 grandchildren, Bryan Whipple, Ryan Bailey(Carrie), Matthew Bailey(Wendy), Kyle Beth Wisniewski(Jeffrey), and Emily Wheeler; 4 great-grandchildren, Ellie and Eryn Bailey, Zachary Wisniewski, and Codye Dauson; and 3 siblings, Ethel Mae Stafford(Don) of Waterford, Charles J. McKay(Mary) of Erie, and Dollyanna Owens of Waterford.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home, West First and Walnut Streets, Waterford, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be there on Wednesday at 11:00am officiated by Rev. Tom Hunsberger, pastor of the Union City Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Burial will follow at Waterford Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
