Kenneth Loren Fisher, age 95, of Brown Road, Guys Mills, PA, died Friday, June 6, 2008 at Golden Living Center in Cambridge Springs where he had been a resident for the past three months. Born on June 17, 1912 in Troy Township, he was a son of the late Loren Fisher and Bessie Smith Fisher. He lived most of his life in the Townville and Guys Mills areas. On December 5, 1941 he married Gertrude Ghering who died on June 4, 1988. On January 7, 1989 he married the former F. Janet Carpenter Sheets who also preceeded him in death on April 7, 2002.
Fisher, Kenneth LorenA veteran of World War II, Mr. Fisher served in the US Army as a supply staff sergeant and saw action in Naples and Rome, as well as the Rhineland in Southern France. He received the European African Middle Eastern Service medal, the Jubilee of Liberty medal for his participation in the Normandy Landing, and the Purple Heart. Mr. Fisher was employed by American Viscose in Meadville for 32 years retiring in 1977. He was a faithful member of the United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills. Other memberships included the American Legion Post # 0994, the Disabled American Veterans, the North American Hunting Club, and the NRA.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Surviving family members include two sons – Donald Fisher and his wife, Doe, of Kemmerer, WY and Craig A. Fisher of Saegertown; a step son – Daryl Sheets and his wife, Cheryl, of Meadville; two step daughters – Nancy Burchard and her husband, Bruce, of Guys Mills and Sue Ellen Felix and her husband, Amado, of Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles; three grandchildren – Fawn Paniagua, Audrey Granneman, and Jordan Fisher; six step grandchildren – Sharon Haregsin, Philip Burchard, Vonda Steiner, Erin Sheets, Marla Sheets, and Kara Albrecht; three great grandchildren and six step great grandchildren. In addition to his two wives, he was preceded in death by an infant son, a grandson – Gene Fisher, two sisters – Bernice Dennis and Helen DuPont, and a brother – Cleo Wilson Fisher.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Wednesday from 7-9 pm and are invited to attend funeral services there on Thursday at 2:00. Rev. Dave Coddington pastor of the United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills will officiate. Interment will be in Kingsley Cemetery, Townville.
