Lula Grace Lenox, age 97, who lived most of her life on Brown Hill, Cambridge Springs, PA died Friday, June 27, 2008 at Wesbury United Methodist Community in Meadville. She had been a resident of Homestead Hearth Personal Care Home in Centerville from Oct, 2002 until May 30th of this year. Born on October 20, 1910 in Union City, she was a daughter of the late Luie Willey and Wave Alden Willey. Soon after graduating from Rockdale School, on January 4, 1928, she married Paul Lewis Lenox and he preceded her in death on June 6, 1969.
Mrs. Lenox epitomized a home maker doing all the usual activities – cooking, baking, canning, quilt making, and gardening with great devotion and skill. In her spare time she was a wall paper hanger. She was a caring person to all of her neighbors on Brown Hill and was concerned with their welfare writing them many notes and cards of encouragement. She wrote a weekly column for the Enterprise News for many years which allowed folks to know of the events occuring in the neighborhood. Mrs. Lenox joined the United Brethern Church on Brown Hill in 1922 and saw it become the Evangelical United Brethern Church and then the Brown Hill United Methodist Church. In the Church she was very active all of her life seldom missing any Church service. She was very well versed in the Bible and taught Sunday School to both the young and the adults. In the church she also had a keen interest in youth ministries and served as Hospitality Chairman. Mrs. Lenox was also involved in Bible Vacation School and volunteered her labor as church janitor.
Mrs. Lenox will be sadly missed by her family that includes a daughter – Ruth L. Smith, wife of her late husband, Ralph Smith, of Townville; a son – William P. Lenox and his wife, Jane of Brown Hill, Cambridge Springs; nine grandchildren- Cheryl Sedlak and her husband, Tom; Connie Gibbons and her husband, Ron; Dennis Smith and his wife, Toni; Cressa Harsh and her husband, Brian; Michael Lenox and his wife, Diane; J. Patrick Lenox and his wife, Grace; Steve Lenox; Debbie Miller and her husband, Rod; and Nana Gilbert. Great grandchildren surviving include – Kristen Cihon, Laurel Gibbons, Jeremiah Gibbons, Hannah Smith, Christopher Smith, Madison Smith, Jaclyn Harsh, and Jennifer Harsh. Also Caleb Lenox, Isaac Lenox, Nicole Lenox, Natasha Lenox, Josiah Lenox, Rebecca Lenox, Bethany Lenox, Bryan Nieman, Kevin Nieman, Elizabeth Nieman, Jake Lenox, Nick Lenox, Meredith Lenox, Madison Lenox, Alexandria Miller, Abigail Miller, and Tyler Gilbert. Preceding in death were six brothers – Howard, Gerald, Russell, Woodrow, Gordon, and Ivon Willey.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 at the Brown Hill United Methodist Church with several family members participating. Interment will be in Millers Station Cemetery.
