Joseph Steve Makoski, age 88, life long resident of 23209 McClellan Street Ext., Cambridge Springs, PA died Thursday, July 10, 2008 at Meadville Medical Center, Meadville, PA following a brief illness. Born on April 9, 1920 in Braddock, PA, he was the son of the late Vincent Makoski and Anna Dragon Makoski. On June 11, 1960 he married the former Bertha Marie Davison and she survives.
.Joseph was an industrious person, farming all of his life and for many years working for Ed Gallant potato growers. He also worked in the maintenance department of Alliance College in Cambridge Springs for 25 years, retiring in 1982. Pastime interests of Joseph were hunting and fishing and maintaining his lawn. He was a member of the Polish National Alliance and the Erie Chapter of the Penn Ohio Model A Club.
In addition to his wife of 48 years, Bertha, Joseph is survived by a son – Joseph S. Makoski, Jr. of Cambridge Springs and a daughter – Rebecca Carroll and her husband, Jim of Venango; two granddaughters whom he loved for very much – Christine Shields and her husband, Frank of Townville and Kristin Carroll of Venango; and a sister – Anna Roha of Cambridge Springs. He was preceded in death by an infant brother and a sister – Helen Sherred.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 and to funeral services there on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. Monsignor Lawrence Speice, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church will officiate. Interment will be in Venango Cemetery
