Fay J. “Jr.” Moses, age 71, of 10931 Old Route 99, McKean, died Thursday, July 3, 2008 at his home after a long illness. Born in Rundeltown, PA on March 16, 1937, he was a son of the late Fay and Leona Cole Moses.
Jr. graduated from high school in 1955 and started work the following year for the Meadville Bread Company, which later was known as Firch’s Bakery and Stroehman’s. He was a faithful employee for almost 43 years making deliveries in Meadville, Cambridge Springs, and Edinboro, and also working in sales until his retirement in 1998.
Gardening was a very enjoyable pastime for Jr. Every year he would plant a large vegetable garden and then enjoy selling the produce at his roadside stand. He also was proud of the raspberries he grew.
He was a member of the McKean Ushers Club, the Meadville Club, and the Eagles Club.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Moses, a sister, Ruth Williams, two brothers, Alwin Moses and Fred Moses, and a niece, Cynthia Rohm.
Those surviving in the family include his wife, Hazel Tallman Caldwell Moses, whom he married March 16, 1981; five children, Maria Soltis and husband Joseph, Debora Cornell, Robert Moses and wife Mary, all of Meadville, James Caldwell of Girard, and Gerald Caldwell of Edinboro; a sister, Dorothy Telliho of Meadville; also, 10 grandchildren, Christina Reynolds, Susan Soltis, Veronica Hall, Megan Frantz, Christina Pyle, Lisa Moses, Walter Cornell, Maria Sampson, Shawn Caldwell, and Jeremy Caldwell; and 6 great-grandchildren, Tyler Farrell, Cadence and Ian Reynolds, Luke and Elora Cornell, and Violet Sampson.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home, 306 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held there on Tuesday morning at 11:00am officiated by Rev. Brian M. Kelly of McLane Church. Interment will follow at Valley Cemetery, McKean Township.
