William Alan Faulkner, age 81, resident of 26764 Capp Road, Edinboro, PA, for the past 56 years, died Sunday, August 31, 2008 at St. Vincent Health Center, Erie, PA after a three month illness. Born in Gowanda, NY on May 19, 1927, he was a son of the late Arthur Lionel Faulkner and Metta Claire Baker Faulkner. On September 24, 1949 he married the former Barbara Anne Willett and she survives.
Faulkner, William AlanFollowing graduation from Fredonia, NY High School in 1940 he entered the US Navy and served during the Second World War from 1945 until 1946 aboard the US Midway Aircraft Carrier. Following his military service he was employed by various construction firms and for the Davey Tree Service for 16 years. He then worked for Penn DOT as a heavy equipment operator for over 20 years retiring in 1989. William enjoyed archeology and collecting native American artifacts. He also enjoyed reading, camping, and hunting and being in the out-of-doors.
Preceding William in death in addition to his parents were two sons – Thomas James Faulkner and Mark Alan Faulkner. Surviving family members in addition to his wife of 58 years include four daughters – Karen Faulkner of Boston, MA; Betsy Carter and her husband, David of Coatsville, PA; Susan Reitz and her husband, Randy of Jackson, AL; and Julie Kean and her husband, Theodore of McKean, PA; three sons – Daniel Faulkner of Millington, TN, David Faulkner and his wife, Shelia of Nashville, TN, and William Faulkner of Augusta, ME; two granddaughters – Rachel Faulkner and Erica Kean; a grandson – Carlos Faulkner; and two great grandchildren – Lucas Motes and Linnea Alvarado Faulkner.
Friends may call the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Tuesday, Sept. 2, from 2:00 until 4:00 and 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. with Gale Thornton, minister of West Grandview Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in Venango Cemetery.
