Alice Eleanor Shade, age 94, resident of Rolling Fields Nursing Home in Conneautville, PA for the past four years, died there on Thursday, August 7, 2008. She had lived in Cambridge Springs since 1958. Born on July 24, 1914 in North Cumberland, PA, she was a daughter of the late George Sheddy and Edna Mae Hester Sheddy. Her husband, Samuel Berger Shade, whom she married July 13, 1940 died on April 19, 1993.
Shade, Alice EleanorPrimarily a home maker, Alice was employed as a secretary for Bush Insurance Agency in Cambridge Springs from 1966 until 1976. She was a member of the Cambridge Springs First United Methodist Church in Cambridge Springs and in former years was active as a Sunday School teacher of young adults and as a member of the Women’s Circles. In addition she was a member and former Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star #114 in Cambridge Springs.
Family members surviving include a daughter – Diane Hickox and her husband, George of Villanova, PA; three sons – Wayne Shade and his wife, Fran of Carlisle, PA; Penn Shade and his wife, Alison of Palm City, FL; and Rexford Shade and his wife, Diana of Cambridge Springs; nine granddaughters – Sara and Marylee Shade of Carlisle, PA; Jessica Morrison and her husband, Clarke of Providence, RI; Lauren Shade of San Diego, CA; Amanda Shade of Brooklyn, NY; Angela Shade of Cambridge Springs; Erin, Kelsey, and Carey Hickox of Villanova, PA; and one great grandson – James Morrison of Providence, RI. Preceding in death in addition to her husband of 53 years, were three infant children; a sister – Lera Cotner and a half brother – Lewis Tyson.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral services will be held there on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Stephanie Gottschalk, pastor of the Cambridge Springs First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Cambridge Springs Cemetery.
