Donald Herbert Garnett, resident of 561 Arch Street, Meadville, PA, and formerly of Centerville and Venango, died Monday, September 29, 2008 at Meadville Medical Center, Meadville. Please join the family in the celebration of his life. Donnie, Papa, or friend – you only had to meet him to never forget his kind ways and sense of humor.
Born on April 27, 1929 in Oil City, he was the only child of Herbert C. and Margaret Edwards Garnett of Centerville, PA. Don married his high school sweet heart, Alice Shreve of Union City, after graduating from Bloomfield High School and together they had four lovely children.
Don found the love of his life in 1968 with Sandra Heath. They were married in 1971, remaining married to this date. Don and Sandy had two children and 37 wonderful happy years together.
Don was involved in his dedication to several organizations in the Meadville area. He was a member and past master of the Masonic Lodge in Spartansburg and a 32nd degree Mason of Coudersport and the Shrine. He also was a past High Priest of the Clarence Commandery # 51 Knights Templar. Presently, he was a member of Cambridge Springs Covenant Masonic Lodge #473 and of Golden Crown Order of Eastern Star # 44 of Meadville.
Don was held by the angels and guided home while being surrounded with his wife and children on Monday, September 29th at Meadville Medical Center.
Don is survived by his child bride, Sandy, and six children – Eric and Annie Garnett of Arkansas; Marialice and Gary Eshbaugh of Englewood, FL; Dino ( Denise or Demon) Garnett and Terri of Port Charlotte, FL; Joel and Jean Garnett of North Port, FL; Tamara and Stephen Garlick of Conneaut Lake, PA; Thomas and Jennifer Garnett formerly of Venango, now stationed overseas. Don had 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren with two more coming soon.
Don will be dearly missed by every person whose life he touched. “He Never Met a Stranger!” We love you Daddy.
Please join the family in a celebration of love at a Memorial Service at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Sunday, October 5th. Friends will be received prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Masonic services will be held there at 3:30 p.m. Donations may be made in his name to Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 8th Street, Erie, PA in lieu of flowers.
