Walter F. Humes, age 71, died suddenly of natural causes at his residence, 12923 Leslie Road, Meadville, PA on Wednesday evening, September 3, 2008. Born on March 15, 1937 in Richmond Twp., Crawford County, he was a son of the late Clarence W. Humes and Martella Zebosky Humes.
Walter was self employed as a mason and carpenter constructing houses, retiring in 1962. He was a veteran of the Viet Nam war serving with the US Army in Germany and was a former member of the following organizations – the ICC Club of Meadville, the Fraternal Oder of Eagles, Aerie #429 of Meadville, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 2006. He enjoyed hunting.
Family surviving Walter includes two sisters – Isabel L. Smith of Saegertown; Dorothy Dudenhaver and her husband, Gerald of Meadville and a twin brother -Willard Humes and his wife, Jeanne of Cambridge Springs; a daughter-in-law – Alice Humes of Cambridge Springs; three nephews – Rick Humes, Steve Humes; and – Michael Humes; two great nephews – Ryan and Gregory Humes; and a great niece – Kirsten Humes. Preceding him in death was brother – Edward Humes.
Private graveside services will be held at Venango Cemetery with Rev. Harold Ferraro, pastor of the First Church of God in Meadville, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs.
