Laine B. Wright, age 81, of Rt. 19, Cambridge Springs, died at Hamot Medical Center on Saturday, September 27, 2008 after a long illness. Born in Oil City on June 27, 1927, he was a son of the late John S. Wright and Alta Cedell Wiley Wright.
When Laine was 17 years old, he enlisted in the US Marines and served for two years during World War II, and then later re-enlisted and served four years in the US Air Force. It was during this time period that he married Virginia Mae Pennington. He began working at American Sterilizer in 1955 and continued there for 34 years until his retirement in 1989.
For many years, Laine attended Washington Valley Christian Church, and in recent years, has attended Draketown Christian Church. He was an active outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, gardening, and hunting, and most of all, he loved his family and his dogs.
Those preceding him in death include a son, Jeffrey Allen Wright, a sister, Pearl Lapham, and his dog, Fluffy.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Virginia Mae Pennington Wright; two sons, Wayne S. Wright and his wife Lelia of Columbus, OH, and Daniel Allen Wright of Phoenix, AZ; a daughter, Elaine Kimberly Diehl and her husband Michael of Cambridge Springs; a brother, John S. Wright of Fremont, IN; 3 grandsons, Anthony Allen Wright, Kyle James Chesser, and Daniel Isaiah Wright; 3 granddaughters, Michaela Danae Diehl, Ashley Nicole Wright, and Jesse Layne Wright; also, nephews and nieces, Lee Bretz, Bruce Wright, Nancy Burke, and Jan Wright; and finally, his dog, Ginger.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home, West First and Walnut Streets, Waterford, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. The funeral service will be held at Draketown Christian Church, 12460 Draketown Road, Edinboro, on Wednesday at 11:00am with Pastor Ron Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow at Mitchell Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
Uncle Laine, your life was a model of how one should live, and you excelled at it all. I am priviliged to have had you for an uncle! I believe that the Lord has welcomed you into His Flock.
