Marie S. Cease, formerly of Warren, completed her homeward journey on October 6, 2008. She was ninety-one years old. She died in peace in her Wilmington, NC home with family and a Hospice nurse present. She told family and friends that death may be the most exciting thing that ever happened to her. She was an inquisitive person and sought answers.
Marie Shauberger Cease was born at home on Friday, July 13, 1917 to her parents, Harley and Edna Shauberger of Albion, PA. She grew up playing the piano and was formally trained as a pianist at the Erie Conservatory of Music, graduating in 1935. She was a 1939 graduate of Allegheny College.
She met her husband Eugene A. Cease of Cambridge Springs, PA during high school and they were married in 1940. He preceded her in death after 51 years of marriage.
Mrs. Cease began teaching in 1940 in a one room school house in Conneaut Twp., PA, later in West Springfield Twp. and in the public school system of Warren County. From 1941 -1946 she was a civilian employee of the Armed Forces, working in Battle Creek, MI. She lived for many years in Warren, PA where she was a member of the Philomel Club and First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Warren Home Rule Study Commission, a founding member of the League of Women Voters of Warren County and a member of the Broadshouldered Women. For many years she chaired the Planning Commission for Warren, PA. She voted her absentee ballot for the 2008 elections.
In her later years she lived in Morgantown, WV and in Wilmington, NC. In Wilmington she was a member and church pianist for Trinity Methodist Church, College Road Campus. She spent her life persevering for right causes and was always concerned with the welfare of others. Her numerous charities spanned a number of diverse groups. She was an optimist who always saw the best in a person. She was blessed with many friends. The family expresses it’s gratitude to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and the many caregivers for the support given them. She is survived by her only son, John H. Cease, daughter-in-law Susan, and grandchildren Jennifer A. Cease and Joshua C. Cease and his wife Bridge.
A memorial celebration of her life will be held at the Wilmington, NC Trinity United Methodist Church, S. College Road Campus at 11:00 am on Thursday, Oct. 9th. On Saturday, Oct 11, a second memorial service will be held at the Warren, PA First United Methodist Church at 11:00 am. Mrs. Cease will then join her husband at rest on Sat. at 3:00 pm at the Cambridge Springs Cemetery, Cambridge Springs, PA, with Reverend Bill Starr of Warren officiating.
