Ellis Lee Gerow, age 71, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his resdence, 1326 Meeker Road, Sabinsville, Potter County, PA on Wednesday, November 26, 2008. Formerly a longtime resident of Cambridge Springs, he had made his home in Sabinsville, PA for the past several years. Born on January 31, 1937 in Rockdale Township, Crawford County, he was a son of the late Earl and Mildred Shorts Gerow. On July 26, 1963 he married the former Evelyn Van Zandt.
Gerow, Ellis LeeEllis was self employed having owned several businesses in the Crawford County area. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed going on fishing trips, espescially to Canada. He also enjoyed collecting Native Indian artifacts and traveling. He was a former member of Covenant Masonic Lodge # 473 in Cambridge Springs.
Family members surviving Ellis include nine children – Doug Gerow of Long Beach, CA; Michele Briggs and her husband, Leon of Centerville, PA; Laurie Barclay and her husband, Scott of Shelocta, PA; Greg Gerow and his companion Sandra Pond of Saegertown; Mark Gerow and his wife, Angela of Cambridge Springs; Heather Simmons and her husband, Jim of Cambridge Springs; Danielle Bernosky and her husband, Tim of Townville; Shawn Gerow and his wife, Shannon of Cambridge Springs; and Scott Gerow and his wife, Christine of Medford, OR. Also a sister – Clarice Burdick of Wesleyville and seventeen grandchildren survive.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Sunday from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. and are invited to attend funeral services there on Monday, December 1st at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Stephanie Gottschalk, pastor of Cambridge Springs First United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Mitchell Cemetery.
