Richard V. Goodenow Sr., age 65, of Old State Road, Waterford, died on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at Millcreek Community Hospital. Born on November 7, 1942 in Erie, he was the son of the late Verune M. and Dorothy J. Thompson Goodenow.
Goodenow Sr., Richard V.For 24 years, Richard was employed as a driver for Lyons Transportation until they closed in 1991. He then worked at various other trucking companies until 1995. He served in the US Navy from 1961-63 and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 169 of Venango and the American Legion Post 381 of Cambridge Springs. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and NASCAR. He will be sadly missed by his loved ones, but his memory will remain as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Schaffer.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 20 years, Linda L. Boarts Bosch Goodenow; a sister, Carolyn Covel of Aiken, SC; eight children: Richard V. Goodenow Jr. and his wife Terri of Waterford, Deanna English and husband Randy of Edinboro, Scott Goodenow of Waterford, Brian Goodenow and wife Tammy of Edinboro, Brent Goodenow and wife Tonya of Waterford, USAF Tech. Sgt. Shaun Goodenow and wife Robyn of Alamogordo, NM, Marcia Goodenow of Waterford, and Traci Bedow of Erie; also, 12 grandchildren: Randall, Todd, Jessica, Jeremy, Amanda, Ryan, Richard, Nick, Josh, Joey, Jered, and Aleea; and 3 great-grandchildren: Dylan, Aiden, and Abigail.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home, West First and Walnut Streets, Waterford, on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm and may attend funeral services there on Tuesday at 11:00am officiated by Pastor Jack Ellis. Burial with military honors will follow at Waterford Cemetery.
