Elva Mae Henry Steadman, age 93, residing at the Church of the Brethren Home, Winber, PA, peacefully joined her Lord there on Tuesday, December 30, 2008. She formerly lived in the Cambridge Springs and Townville areas. Born on February 4, 1915 in Rockdale Twp., Crawford County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Carl B. Henry and Alice Rosella Thomas Henry. She married Park E. Steadman on August 9, 1932 and he preceded her in death on March 3, 1995.
A graduate of Rockdale High School, Elva was employed over the years at Carpenter Meat Packing Company, Powell Vineyards, Titusville Hospital Laundry Department, and the Rockdale School cafeteria. She was an active member of the Troy Center United Methodist Church and the Troy Center Ladies Aid. For thirty years she taught Sunday School and served as treasurer or superintendent many times during these years. For over 50 years, Elva was a dedicated member of Granges at Brown Hill, Troy Center, and Steuben where she held several offices including Master. She also held many offices in other organizations including Townville Pyrenean Club, Our Lady of the Springs Rebecca Lodge in Cambridge Springs, and Rockdale Flower Club. Her Lord and her family were her first love. She enjoyed flowers and vegetable gardening, yard work, entertaining relatives and friends, traveling, and spending winters in Florida which she did for 18 years.
Family members surviving are three sons – Lawrence W. Steadman of Townville; Dale E. Steadman and his wife, Judy of Cochranton; and Blaine E. Steadman and his wife, Rose Marie of Windber; six grandchildren – K. Bruce Steadman and his wife, Kathy of Centerville; Richard Steadman of Townville; Sandra Steadman Boyer and her husband, David of Windber; Lorrie Steadman Polash and her husband, Larry of Windber; Tina Steadman Seger of Derry, PA; and Alan Steadman and his wife, Karen of Cochranton; nine great grandchildren – Jamie and Samuel Boyer; Abby, Allie, and Megan Polash of Windber; Arianna and Tristan Seger of Derry; and Ryan and Kaylen Steadman of Cochranton; and a half-sister -Shirley Jackman of Erie. She was preceded in death in addition to her husband of 63 years and her parents, by a step-mother – Mildred Stainbrook Henry; two sisters – Edna Henry Dengler and her husband, Henry; two brothers – Charley Henry and his wife, Catherine; her baby brother – Clarence Henry; and a daughter-in-law – Carol Lee Anderson Steadman.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Friday from 2:00 until 9:00 p.m. and are invited to attend funeral services there on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Beverly Sheets, pastor of Troy Center United Methodist Church will offiiate. Interment will be in Millers Station Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Troy Center United Methodist Church, 33279 N. Main Street, Townville, PA 16360.
I am sorry to hear of your mothers death,She was such a wonderful lady and a part of my life in the summers I spent in Troy Center.
