Muriel Alice Burrows Durkin, age 86, of Rockdale Township, Cambridge Springs, died Monday, January 5, 2009 at Hamot Medical Center after an extended illness. Born in Titusville, PA on December 28, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Muriel Eugenia Millard Burrows.
Durkin, Muriel Alice BurrowsMarried to Lawrence A. Durkin Sr. in 1944, Mrs. Durkin and her husband raised their family and were married for 31 years until his death in 1975. During many of these years she worked at Erie Technological Products until her retirement in 1977. She remained active for most of her remaining years and enjoyed visiting family and friends. For pleasure, she would go fishing, play bingo, and work in her flower gardens.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, four brothers, and a granddaughter.
Survivors in the family include four children, Lawrence A. Durkin and his wife Karen of Waterford, Muriel Alexander Fausnaught and her husband Don, also of Waterford, Patrick Durkin and his wife Joan of Venango, and Michael Durkin of Cambridge Springs; her former daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Durkin of Erie; her sister Helen who lives in Townville; 31 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm and may attend funeral services there on Friday at 11:00am. Officiating will be Rev. Duane Pinney of Washington Valley Christian Church. Burial will follow at Erie County Memorial Gardens.
