Doris Marie Eckstein, age 85, resident of 25515 Miller Hill Road, Cambridge Springs, died Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Hamot Medical Center, Erie. Born on December 27, 1923 in Ripley, NY, she was a daughter of the late Jess Hugg and Polly Calkins Hugg. She had lived in the Millers Station area since 1964. On December 15, 19629 she married John Raymond Eckstein and he preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 1994.
Eckstein, Doris MarieA homemaker, Doris worked outside the home for Stanley Home Products, the Marx Toy Company, the Beachcomber Restaurant in Erie, General Electric in Erie for 5 years, and at Beverly Health care in Cambridge Springs. Her hobbies included gardening, baking, canning, and growing roses.
In addition to her husband of 35 years, Doris was preceded in death by a brother – Harold Hugg and a sister – Lena Hadzeka. Surviving family members include two sons – Gerald “Butch” Extein and his wife, Geraldine of Harborcreek and Michael Eckstein and his wife, Vicki of Cambridge Springs; a daughter – Selma “Sally” Peters and her husband, Rustin of Mill Village; a sister – Estella Eades of Northeast, PA; nine grandchildren – Kim Forrester; Tom Extein; Patrick Extein; Amy Extein; Matthew Peters; Steven Peters; Sarah Eckstein; Erika Eckstein; and Nathan Eckstein.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 and are invited to attend funeral services there on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Monsignor Lawrence Speice pastor of St. Anthony Catholic Church will officiate. Interment will be in Millers Station Cemetery.
