Richard Joseph Rockwood, age 91, a resident of Mill Village since 2000, died Monday, January 19, 2009 at Saint Vincent Health Center after a brief illness. Born in Worcester, MA on September 24, 1917, he was a son of the late David and Anna Stafinski Rockwood.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Rockwood served from 1941-45 in the US Army–the 11th Airborne, 511th Parachute Division. After the war, he lived in Dorchester, MA and worked as a foreman for Walsh Brothers General Contractors for 35 years until his retirement in 1983. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and he loved being a grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Brennan Rockwood who died in 2005; and his sister, Elizabeth. Survivors include his son, Richard D. Rockwood and his wife Sharon of Marshfield, MA; his daughter, Diane M. Foltz and her husband Daniel of Mill Village; a brother, Joseph Rockwood of Norton, MA; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Harrison, Gregory Rockwood, and Daniel, Marie, Dara, Tabatha, and Katie Foltz; and three great-grandchildren, Daniel, Isaac, and Carter.
A graveside service will take place at Blue Hills Cemetery in Braintree, MA. There will be no local services. Memorials may be made to the Mill Village Volunteer Fire Department, Mill Village, PA 16427. Arrangements are by the Van Matre Funeral Home of Waterford.
