Morrell B. Pratt, age 90, of Waterford, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009. Born January 31, 1919 in Union City, he was one of two sons of the late Max M. and Mildred G. Landsrath Pratt.
Mr. Pratt graduated from Waterford High School in 1937 and then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Westminster College in 1941. He went on to serve as a corporal in the United States Army with the 8th Evacuation Hospital in Africa and Italy during World War II. Upon returning home, he continued his education at Penn State University earning a Masters of Education in 1949, and then later at Middlebury College in Vermont, earning a Masters in Spanish.
He was employed as a Spanish teacher at schools in Erie, Crawford, and Clarion counties from 1946-1970. His memberships included the First Presbyterian Church of Waterford, where he joined in 1930, the Fort LeBoeuf American Legion Post 285, and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Edinboro Lodge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Sweatman Pratt, whom he married in 1942 and who died September 24, 2004; also his brother, Harold M. Pratt who died in 1976.
Survivors include his nephew, Alan Pratt and his wife Connie, of Atlanta, GA, and several other nieces and nephews
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held there on Saturday at 2:00pm officiated by Rev. Emily Zeig, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Waterford. Interment will follow at Waterford Cemetery.
