Michael James Messenger, age 60, of Waterford, died unexpectedly at Saint Vincent Health Center on Wednesday evening, May 20, 2009. Born September 17, 1948 in Erie, he was the second oldest of six sons of the late James F. and Dorothy J. Aldrich Messenger.
Messenger, Michael JamesAfter graduating from Fort LeBoeuf High School in 1966, Mike entered the United States Marine Corps and served for 10 years, part of which was during the Vietnam Era. He then lived and worked for many years in Texas before returning to Waterford in 2000. He worked at various jobs, mostly related to computers and hotel management. What was most important to Mike was his faith in God and his desire to serve God in any way he could. He formerly attended Draketown Christian Church in Edinboro where he served as Trustee and was a member of the prayer team. Presently, he and his fianc???, Jan M. Post, were attending McLane Church in Edinboro, where he served with the hospitality ministry.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his infant daughter, Cathryn Michelle Messenger. Survivors include his fianc???, Jan M. Post, whom he was to marry this coming August; two sons, Raymond James Messenger (Jennifer) of Erie, and Michael Allen Messenger; three grandchildren; and five brothers, Gregory Dean Messenger (Janith) of Erie, Thomas Glenn Messenger of Ocala, FL, Patrick Alan Messenger (Susan) of Waterford, Timothy B. Messenger (Patricia) of Erie, and Peter S. Messenger (Deborah) of Albion.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home, West First and Walnut Streets, Waterford on Saturday from 11:00am until time of the funeral service at 1:00pm. Rev. Daryl Myer of McLane Church will officiate. Interment will be in Waterford Cemetery.
