Joyce M. Brunner, age 70, resident of 231 East 6th Street, Waterford, PA died Friday, June 19, 2009 at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA after a brief illness. She had lived in Waterford since 1976. Born in Bronx, New York on March 8, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Laverne Spurbeck and Uleta Stevens Spurbeck. On October 26, 1974 she married Kenneth L. Brunner and he preceded her in death on March 25, 2003.
Primarily Joyce was a home maker, but she did work as a medical secretary for the office of Dr. Kramer in Erie from 1977 until 1990. Joyce enjoyed playing cards and visiting the casinos. She was a fun loving person and also liked to read and to bowl. Her family and friends were important to her. She was a member of American Legion Post #285 Auxiliary in Waterford.
Surviving Joyce are three daughters – Terry Cole (Byrne) and her fianc??? Tom Wiley of Waterford; Jean Showman and her husband, Steve of Waterford; and Mary Yonkin and her husband, Darren of Manalapan, NJ; one son – Tom Byrne and his wife, Lisa of Odessa, FL; three stepdaughters – Jane Morton and her husband, John of Wurtsboro, NY; Nancy Davis and her husband, Jim of Middletown, NY; Pat White and her companion, Sandy of Columbus, OH; two step sons – Joseph Brunner and his wife, Val of Erie and Christopher Brunner and his wife, Sherri of Columbus, OH; one brother – Duke Spurbeck of AR; and three special friends – Joan Brunner of NY; Marilyn Damico; and Mary Finazzo of Erie. Also surviving are many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford from 2-4 and 7-8 on Monday. A funeral service will be conducted there Monday evening at 8:00 p.m. with Reverend Duane Pinney, pastor of the Washington Valley Christian Church officiating.
