LeRoy W. Churchill, age 79, of 59 Cottage Drive, Waterford, died Saturday morning, June 27, 2009 at St. Mary’s Home of Erie after a short illness. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 12, 1930, he was the son of the late Winston and Sophia Kondak Churchill. He married Evalyn White in 1954 and she survives him.
A veteran of the US Army, LeRoy served during the Korean Conflict. For over 30 years he was employed at Thermoclad Company of Erie and retired in 1996 as Plant Engineer. He had many varied interests including scuba diving, hunting, boating, and riding motorcycles. Primarily, though, he loved his wife and family and was dedicated to them.
Preceding him in death was his infant son, William Wallace Churchill, and his sister, Charlotte Bevevino.
Surviving family members include his wife, Evalyn White Churchill; four children, John Churchill and his wife Janet of Ocala, FL, Judy Churchill and her companion Karl Friedrich of Mentor, OH, Jill Kanehailua and her husband Val of Oahu, Hawaii, and Janet Schrimper of Waterford; also 13 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will take place there on Wednesday morning at 11:00am officiated by Rev. Fr. Thomas Whitman of All Saints Parish. Interment will be in Erie County Memorial Gardens.
