Helen L. Myers, age 88, of 11123 West Greene Road, Waterford, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Hamot Medical Center after a short illness. Born on July 30, 1920 in Millcreek, she was the daughter of the late Nathan and Bertha Gale Fiesler.
Helen grew up in the Weis Library area and after her marriage to Norman Myers on June 15, 1940, moved to Waterford where she lived the rest of her life. Helen lived a full life as a homemaker, wife and mother, for there was never a dull moment raising six children and operating the family dairy farm with her husband. She had many pleasures including cooking and baking, flowers, house plants, and playing the piano. It was years ago that she was pianist for the Weis Library United Methodist Church. Primarily, Helen was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Even after her husband died at an early age in 1970, she enjoyed her role in the family as “Mom” and “Pink Grandma”, the name her grandchildren called her because of her love of the color pink.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Roger Myers on July 20, 1970, two brothers, Roger Fiesler and Harold Manning, and a grandson, Brian Myers.
Surviving family members include four daughters, Beverly Gafner and husband Larry of Waterford, Linda Gausman and husband Joe of Waterford, Norma Bemis and husband Dave of Northeast, and Brenda Young and husband Bob of Waterford; two sons, Gerald Myers and wife Pat of Waterford, and Ray Myers and wife Deb of Union City; also, 17 grandchildren, Jeff, Greg and Lisa, Trisha, Tim and Terry, Ray Jr., Dave and Jim, Matt and Beth, Ryan, and Sarah, Jolene, Zack, Kaylee and Alee; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held there on Saturday morning at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Waterford Cemetery.
