Harvey W. Adsit, age 79, resident of Cambridge Springs, PA since 1959 died Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Meadville Medical Center, Meadville, PA after a short illness. Born on May 4, 1930 in East Fallowfield Twp., Crawford County, PA, Harvey was a son of the late Floyd and Edna Adsit. He attended school at Conneaut Lake and then at East Fallowfield High School for his final three years, graduating in 1948. Shortly thereafter he entered the military service and served during the Korean War from 1950 until 1954 with the US Navy as a boiler tender 2nd class. Harvey worked for over 36 years as an operating engineer of heavy construction equipment, building roads and bridges throughout northwest Pennsylvania. He was a member of Operating Engineers Union Local 66 out of Erie and was recognized for 50 years of affiliation with them. Harvey was a member of VFW Post #249 of Butler, PA.
Preceding Harvey in death in addition to his wife, Thelma Youngs Powell Adsit, whom he married on July 4, 1959 and who died on July 12, 1990 were two sisters – Elizabeth Adsit Cameron and Lucille Adsit Shane and a daughter-in-law – Linda L. Powell who died on May 31, 2008. Surviving family members include a step-son – John S. Powell of Meadville; a granddaughter – Jill I. Powell Francisco and her husband, Shawn; and a great grandson – John David Francisco all of Huntington, WV.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Wednesday from 7-9 and are invited to attend funeral services there Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Jeff Bobin, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Cambridge Springs will officiate. Interment will be in Cambridge Springs Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to either Cambridge Area Volunteer Ambulance Services, 202 Venango Ave., or Cambridge Springs Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 188, both located in Cambridge Springs, PA 16403.
