Albert James Knuth, age 94, of 24455 Hwy # 408, Cambridge Springs, PA died Monday, October 26, 2009 at Meadville Medical Center, Meadville, PA. He had been a resident of Golden Living Center in Cambridge Springs for the past nine months. Born on October 28, 1914 in Rockdale Twp., Crawford County, a son of the late Frank A. Knuth and Mary Marzka Knuth, he lived his entire life in the Cambridge area. On September 29, 1956 he married the former Isabelle May Salen and she preceded him in death on March 2, 2008. On February 18, 1942 he was drafted into the U S Army and served his country with the 809th Tank Destroyer Battalion until being discharged on November 4, 1945. Following his military service be began employment with the Carnation Milk Company in Cambridge Springs where he worked in production and engineering retiring in 1979 as supervisor of maintenance.
Albert was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cambridge Springs where he served for many years as a Trustee, and as Chairman of the Administrative Board. He was also active with the Methodist Men’s Fellowship. Other memberships included – American Legion Post #381, the North Richmond Cemetery Association Board where he served as president for many years, and the Cambridge Springs Historical Society. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, and bowling.
Family surviving him include a sister – Theona Sekel and her husband, Nick of Cambridge Springs; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were four brothers – Frank Knuth, Ralph Knuth, Raymond Knuth, and Robert Knuth and one sister – Bertha Caldwell.
Friends may call at the Van Matre family Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 and to funeral services there on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Jeff Bobin, pastor of Cambridge Springs First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in North Richmond Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 326 South Main Street, Cambridge Springs, PA 16403.
