Gordon S. Peters, a dairy farmer and lifelong resident of the Mill Village area, died Tuesday, October 13, 2009, just one day prior to his 80th birthday. He was born in Union City on October 14, 1929, and was a son of the late John C. and Miriam E. Kelly Peters. He married Martha Campbell on July 6, 1957 and she survives.
Peters, Gordon S.Gordon, along with his twin brother George, and later his son Doug, operated their family’s dairy farm on Mackey Hill in LeBoeuf Township since 1950. He enjoyed the hard work of farming and was active right up until the past couple of years when he had to slow down for health reasons. For over 50 years, Gordon was a volunteer with the Mill Village Fire Department and served in many capacities including Chief and President. He was a member of the Mill Village United Methodist Church and years ago volunteered with the Boy Scouts.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Braden Peters.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Martha Peters; three children, Shelley Brown and her husband Robert, and Douglas Peters and his wife Martha, all of Mill Village, and Alan Peters and his wife Michelle of Corning, NY; five grandchildren, Cory and Cassie Brown, Brenda and Amber Peters, and Kara Peters; his twin brother George Peters and wife Nancy of Edinboro, a sister Barbara Fehr of Erie, brother Clyde Peters of Mill Village, and brother David Peters and his wife Judy of Edinboro; also many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home of Waterford on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be there on Friday at 12:00 noon officiated by Rev. Betty Hollabaugh, pastor of Mill Village United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Mill Village Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Mill Village Fire Department or the Mill Village United Methodist Church.
