Audrey D. Speck, age 84, resident of 24696 Elm Road, Cambridge Springs, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at Crawford County Care Center in Saegertown. Born on December 25, 1924 in North East, PA, Audrey was a daughter of the late Jack Dengle and Cora Ziegler Dengle (Bunce). On August 4, 1945 she married Joseph Anthony Speck and he preceded her in death on March 16, 2006.
Speck, Audrey D.Audrey graduated from Cambridge Springs High School and from Erie Business School receiving a business degree. She worked as a business secretary during World War II and shortly thereafter in Harrisburg and in Washington, D.C. From 1969 she was employed by Penn Union Teledyne in Edinboro until her retirement over 25 years later. She was a member of St. Phillips Catholic Church and the Church’s Ladies Auxiliary in Crossingville. She also was a life member of Venango VFW Post #169 and American Legion Post #381 in Cambridge Springs. An avid card player, particularly euchre, she also enjoyed visiting the casinos.
Family members surviving Audrey include a son – Joseph Speck and his wife, Terry of Boalsburg, PA; two daughters – Karen Hager and her husband – David of Meadville and Christie Atkinson and her friend, Brian of Cambridge Springs; seven grandchildren – Tawnia Price, Eric Hager, Jennifer Rogan, Jill Seigworth, Holly Atkinson, Mickey Bennett, and Tori Bennett; eleven great grandchildren – Trevor Price, Ashtyn Price, Ella Hager, Sophie Hagar, Kyra Rogan, Jack Rogan, Andy Rogan, Joshua Rogan, Matthew Rogan, Ava Seigworth, and Cora Seigworth. Also included are two brothers – David Lewis and his wife, Judy of Cross, SC and Delroy Lewis and his friend, Nancy of Espyville. In addition to her parents and husband, a brother – Donald Dengle preceded her in death.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 and to vigil prayer services there Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at St. Phillips Catholic Church in Crossingville with Reverend Thaddeus Kondzielski, pastor of the Church, as celebrant. Interment will be in St. James Cemetery, Crossingville.
