Robert D. (Robb) Heard, age 21, went home to Jesus on Friday, November 20, 2009 at Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital surrounded by those closest to him. He was born August 25, 1988 to David and Karen Heard.
Robbie loved being with friends and going out to eat, especially late night trips to Subway and Buffalo Wild Wings. He was an avid hockey player for most of his life. He could frequently be found at E.L. Heard & Son working with the guys or toolin’ down the road in his Mustang, Eleanor, and his 1953 Chevy pickup. He was very proud of obtaining his CDL license last summer. As a student at Penn State University, he enjoyed attending hockey and football games.
Survivors include his parents David and Karen; sister Krissy; brothers Andy and Matt; grandparents Hubert and Louise Smith; grandmother Corinne Heard; and various aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home of Waterford on Tuesday from 2:00pm until 9:00pm. Further visitation will take place at Asbury United Methodist Church of Waterford on Wednesday from 9:00am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00am. Officiating will be Rev. Richard Freeman and Rev. Betty Hollabaugh. Interment will follow at Waterford Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation. See www.kanziuscancerresearch.com.
David, Karen and family,
The days have passed but still the thoughts of prayers and love still surround you…The Rosthausers
Dear Heard Family, I just received the news of Robb’s passing. I was the Production Manager at AutoAlliance when Robb watched his car roll off the line. Robb was such a inspiration to the hundreds of people who witnessed that event. For days we talked about it and every time somebody would comment on what a fine young man he was. He touched us in the few hours we were with him. I can only imagine the loss felt by his family and friends. My prayers are with you.
Words can not express the feeling of sadness we are feeling for you and your entire family for the loss of your son. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Heard and Smith Families,
Words can not express the sadness we are feeling with the loss of Robb. He was and is a true inspiration of courage and dignity. He had such a caring spirit, always concerned for others and such a friend to all. Of all the students I have had over the years, he always had a smile on his face and a positive attitude about everything. He will be missed greatly, but now he can rest in the arms of his Lord. Your families are and will always be in our prayers.
God Bless you!
Paul, Lori Dahlkemper and family
Our sympathy and warmest thoughts are with you now.
May the comfort of family and friends be your strength now and in the days ahead.
Dear David, Karen and the Heard Family,
We are sorry to learn about the loss of your son, Robb. I had the privilege in meeting Robb when he visited a friend of his, Kelby Skelton, at the Shriner’s Hospital. We know this is a difficult time for you and your family. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Our condolences, Craig & Monica Schwegman
A friend of my son and a friend of mine as well. A great young man, taken far too soon. Our condolances to the entire Heard family.
Words can not express the sadness for your loss of Robb. He was a wonderful human being, a tribute to his family and his upbringing. May he rest in peace forever in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. You are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you all.
Dave, Karen and family,
It will be the little things
that you will remember,
the quiet moments,
the smiles, the laughter.
And although it may seem
hard right now,
it will be the memories
of these little things
that help to push
away the pain
and bring the smiles
back again.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
We are so very sorry for your loss. Robb was a courageous young man of whom you can be proud. Our hearts break for you. We pray that God holds you close and comforts you during this great time of sorrow.
Keeping you in prayer,
