Alan Mark Hendrickson, age 51, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2009 at the Golden Living Center, Cambridge Springs, PA after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Cambridge Springs, he had lived at the Golden Living Center for the past three years. Born on January 10, 1958, he was a son of the late Edward Hendrickson and Frances May Hendrickson. Alan was widely known in his community of Cambridge Springs
A graduate of the Blue Barn School in Meadville in 1978, Alan was employed by Vallonia Industries in Meadville. He was a member of the Oasis Club of the Association of Retarded Citizens of Crawford County and participated in the Special Olympics in track and field, swimming, bowling, basketball, and soft ball for which he won numerous first place ribbons and awards. Alan especially enjoyed the holidays, dancing, watching videos, music, and doing crafts at the Golden Living Center. He also enjoyed camping with his mother in their RV at Farma and at Brookdale Camp Grounds where he had many friends.
Although considered disabled, Alan’s condition of Down’s Syndrome allowed him a disposition completely free from feelings of hatred, animosity, or spite for anyone or anything, unconditionally. His innocence, love of life, and loving nature will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be sadly missed by his sister, Kay, who was very close to him and whom he loved very much.
Family members surviving Alan include two brothers – Guy Hendrickson and his wife, Lorene of Indiana and Ed Hendrickson and his wife, Vikki of Cambridge Springs; a sister – Kay Olszewski and her husband, Leo of Cambridge Springs. Nieces and nephews include – Steve Tucci; Beth Tucci-Butler; Susan Tucci; Michael Tucci; Holly Yee; Amber Litzel; Katie Hendrickson; Jessica Hendrickson; Doug Caldwell; Rick Caldwell; Alan Caldwell; Heidi Hendrickson; Kim Charles. Great nieces and nephews include – Jenna Tucci; Tyler Tucci; Devon Butler; Dillan Butler; Stephan May; Tiara Tucci; and Michael Tucci. He was preceded in death by a sister – Sylvia Hendrickson and a brother – Gene Hendrickson.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Saturday from 7-9 and on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral services will be held there on Monday at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Venango Cemetery.
