Evelyn Frances Brown Taylor, loving mother and grandmother, age 92 and a resident of Waterford for 52 years, died Monday, December 28, 2009 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community in Meadville where she lived since 2005. Born in Greenville on October 2, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Clayton R. and Frances M. Foulk Brown.
Taylor, Evelyn Frances BrownEvelyn graduated from Academy High School in 1934 and attended Scarrett College. She was employed as a secretary at General Electric Co. from 1934-42, and then was the Provost’s secretary at Edinboro University from 1964-77 when she retired. Evelyn was an active member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Waterford and a founding member of the Erie Peace Fellowship. She was devoted to her family and her church, and lived her life in constant prayer.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Taylor, whom she married March 21, 1942 and who died March 19, 2008; two sisters, Gladys Brown Schwab and Vada Brown Howell, and a brother, Glen C. Brown.
Survivors include three children, Karen Evelyn Taylor Kimple and her husband Chuck of Waterford, Marian Sue Taylor Beckman and her husband Don of Edinboro, and Dennis Clayton Taylor and his wife Kerri of Fairview; four grandsons, Wesley, Jon, Matthew, and Ryan; three granddaughters, Elizabeth, Katie, and Rachel; two great-granddaughters, Evelyn Louise and Gwendolyn Irene; and her sister, Jean Brown Alstadt of California.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home, Walnut and West First Streets, Waterford on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. The funeral service will take place at Asbury United Methodist Church in Waterford on Thursday at 11:00am officiated by Rev. Dennis Fetter. Burial will follow at Waterford Cemetery.
