Charles (Chuck) Weary, age 81, longtime resident of Waterford, PA, died at his home, on Friday, February 5, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He had put in a long battle during the last six years due to a number of medical issues. He was lovingly cared for the entire time by his angel and wife, the former Catherine Borges whom he married November 12, 1948.
Weary, Charles (Chuck)Chuck was a warm, wonderful man, always ready to greet you with a smile. His snowy white hair gave him the nickname of “Silver Fox”. The only thing that brought Chuck greater joy than hunting and fishing was time spent with his fun and loving family.
Chuck was born in New Mine, PA on February 9, 1928 the son of the late Harry Weary and Klista Snyder Weary. He grew up in Reynoldsville, PA and after school joined the Navy, serving in Okinawa. After the service he learned the trade of auto body returning to Waterford to work at GE, Koph’s Auto Body, and then his own business – Chuck’s Auto Repair, for many years. During this time he was the official starter at Kuhl Road and many other local dirt tracks. His memberships included the NRA and American Legion Post #285 of Waterford. He was also a hunter safety instructor for over 35 years.
He was preceded in death by a brother – William Weary and a granddaughter – Anna Marie Weary. He is survived by his sisters – Wiladene Bussard, Evelyn Sutter, Louise Miller, Maxine Zimmerman, Violet Getty, Barbara and Lois Weary, as well as his brothers – Robert and Roy Weary. He also leaves his family of six children and their spouses, each of whom was his “favorite” – Kathleen and Steve Kahala, Chuck and Carol Weary, Tom and JoAnne Weary, Ron and Tammy Weary, Jim and Cindy Weary, and Ed and Kelly Weary. Also remaining to mourn his loss are 21 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who have all been at his side.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home of Waterford on Monday from 2-9pm. Funeral services will be held there Tuesday morning at 11:00am officiated by Rev. James Judy of St. Marks Lutheran Church of Waterford.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Erie County Hunter Safety Program or Hospice of Erie, in care of the funeral home or family.
