Flossie Louise Powell, age 90, resident of 25200 State Street, Saegertown, PA (Blooming Valley), passed away at her home on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 surrounded by her loving family after a period of declining health. Born on June 21, 1919 in Meadville, PA, she was a daughter of the late LeRoy Shorts and Mildred Smith Shorts. On October 7, 1939 she married Clarence H. Powell and he preceded her in death on October 8, 2002.
An excellent homemaker, Flossie enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Flossie was a precious mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt and leaves behind to mourn her loss a son – James H. Powell of Saegertown; two daughters – Joyce L. Reichel and her husband, David of Blooming Valley and Janet Yanc of Meadville; and a sister – Betty Bourgeois of Meadville. Also surviving is a special sister-in-law – Frances Shorts; five grandchildren -James Walker of Colorado Springs, CO; Diane Mercier and her husband, Shane of Meadville; Brenda Walker of Erie; Rhonda George of Erie; and Kelly Kobusinski and her husband, Frank of Erie. Included are eleven great grandchildren – Elizabeth, Calvin, Ryan, Austin, Rachael, Kelly, Alexis, Merissa, Skylar, McKenna, and Madison; a special son-in-law – Harry Walker and his wife, Toshie of Colorado Springs, CO and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death in addition to her husband, Clarence H. Powell, was a daughter – Helen Jean Walker Kienholz; three brothers – Robert Shorts, Junior Shorts, Glenn Shorts, and a sister – Oletha Harroff.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 and are invited to attend funeral services there on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be Reverend Jeff Wilson, pastor of Christ Evangelical Free Church. Interment will be in Blooming Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family in care of the funeral home.
