Frances “Fran” Ellen Humes, age 80, resident of 25512 Drake Street, (Drakes Mills), Cambridge Springs, PA, died Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Meadville Medical Center, Meadville, PA following an extended illness. She resided in the Cambridge area all of her life. Born on September 24, 1929 in Clymer, NY, Fran was a daughter of the late Harry Watson and Grace Bush Watson. On January 5, 1974 she married Robert Milton Humes and he died January 16, 2004. She previously had been married to Charles Lewis Glenn.
In younger years, Fran worked at Teledyne Penn Union and at the San Rosario in Cambridge Springs. From 1972 until her retirement in 1992, she worked in the house keeping department at Edinboro University. Fran was a member of Draketown Christian Church and the Helping Hands in Cambridge Springs. She enjoyed playing bingo and playing hand held games. She found pleasure in growing flowers and watching birds, particularly humming birds.
Family members surviving Fran are – Gary Watson and his wife, Linda of Youngstown, OH; Pat Glenn of Cambridge Springs; Janet Humes and her husband, Charles of Cambridge Springs; Linda Stafford and her husband, James of Waterford; Judy Mitchell and her husband, John of Gadscen, AL; Karen Weiland and her husband, David of Erie; Robert M. Humes, Jr. of Cambridge Springs; Steven R. Humes of Meadville; Gary W. Humes and his fianc???e, Paula of Cambridge Springs; and Larry W. Humes of Cambridge Springs; two brothers – Robert Watson of Arkansas and Richard Watson of Florida. Also surviving is a step daughter – Penny Yurcak and her husband, David; a step brother – Homer Kerr; a stepsister – Della Marsh; and an half brother – Dennis Kerr all of Cambridge Springs. In addition, Fran is survived by 17 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter – Kathy Stafford.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 and are invited to attend funeral services there on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. Reverend Ronald Kennedy, pastor of Draketown Christian Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Cambridge Cemetery. Following the committal friends are invited to attend a luncheon at the family home in Drakes Mills.
