Margaret E. Wilcox DeVore, age 95, resident of the Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown, PA for the past year, died there on Wednesday, February 2, 2011. Except for the past year, she lived in Cambridge Springs all of her life.

DeVore, Margaret E. WilcoxBorn on June 18, 1915 in Rockdale Township, Margaret was a daughter of the late Ward Wilcox and Cora Pixley Wilcox. Her husband, Paul DeVore, whom she married on December 21, 1933, preceded her in death on October 25, 1991.

Margaret attended Rockdale School and in her younger years worked as a waitress at several local Cambridge Springs restaurants including the Home Restaurant. Later she worked for the Riverside Golf Course Dining facility. This was followed by her employment with Edinboro University in their House Keeping Department which she did for over ten years until her retirement at the age of 65. A certificate for Housekeeping was given to her from the University for her excellence. In addition, Margaret was employed by Cambridge Springs Boro from 1944 until 1975 as their answering and monitoring service for Fire and Police calls.

Margaret attended the First Church of God in Cambridge Springs, was a former member of the Cambridge Springs Order of Eastern Star, the Mohawk Community Club, and the Cambridge Grange.

Family members surviving Margaret include a daughter – Nora “Pat” Watson and a son – Norman “Butch” DeVore and his wife, Mary all of Cambridge Springs; eight grandchildren – Deborah DeVore of Vandergrift, PA; James A. DeVore and his wife, Cindy of Cambridge Springs; David DeVore of Graham, NC; Connie Bauman and her husband, David of Vandergrift, PA; Tammy McEntyre of Meadville; Robert Watson and his wife, Kristy of West Virginia; Norman DeVore, Jr. of Cambridge Springs; and Christopher DeVore and his wife, Melissa of Cambridge Springs. In addition, there are thirteen great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews who survive. She was preceded in death by a son -James Paul DeVore; three brothers – Charlie, John, and Paul Wilcox and three sisters – Mary Wilcox, Dora Ferris, and Marjorie Bogart.

Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 and are invited to attend funeral services there on Saturday afternoon at 2:00. Reverend Jim Callender, pastor of the First Church of God in Cambridge Springs, will officiate. Private interment will take place in Miller Station Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
