Dorothy Ann (Diem) Kent, age 89, passed away after failing health at Edinboro Manor in Edinboro, PA on Monday morning, February 14, 2011 to be with her valentine -?Don. She was formerly of Estero, FL and of Erie.
Born on May 4, 1921 in Fort Wayne, IN, she was a daughter of the late Alfred Diem and Katherine Garmon Diem. She grew up in Fort Wayne with two brothers and graduated from South Side High School on June 9, 1939. Always wanting to see Hollywood, she and her girlfriend traveled to California to see the movie stars and to work for Douglas Aircraft in the secretarial department. There she also became one of the “Rosey Riveter Girls” doing work for the war effort. After living three years in Los Angeles, she returned home to Fort Wayne to attend secretarial school. There she also worked for General Electric. It was then that she met the love of her life, Donald Kent and they were married March 16, 1946. They continued to reside in Fort Wayne until moving to Erie in 1956. She, her husband, and one son enjoyed sailing on Lake Erie in their sailboat, “Ebb Tide”. They were members of the United Methodist Church and of Presque Isle Yacht Club. Dorothy’s other interests were cooking, entertaining, and bowling.
Those preceding Dorothy in death, in addition to her parents and her husband – Donald G. Kent of Estero, FL , were two brothers -Alfred Diem and his wife, Ruth of Folsom, California and Harry Diem and his wife, Irma of Fort Myers, FL. Survivors include a son – William H. Kent and his wife, Cheryl of Cambridge Springs; two grandchildren – Brandon S. Kent and his wife, Megan of LaGrange, KY and Emily Schlosser and her husband, Benjamin of McKean. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
There will be no visitation. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Dear Bill and Cheryl: So sorry to see in today’s paper that Bill’s mom passed away on Valentines Day. You folks sure have been busy with nursing homes….our thoughts are with you both. I see that Bill was a sailboat guy, who knew! Hope that in your own way, you celebrate Dorothy’s life the way you let us celebrate with you, Janet’s life….that was just wonderful. Karen Hayes
