Joyce A. Burkiewicz, age 80, of Mill Village, died Monday, June 27, 2011 at Cambridge Springs Rehabilitation and Nursing Center where she had resided for only a few days. Born in Fredonia, NY on August 25, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Leroy and Doris Baker Griffith. She married Joseph Alvin Burkiewicz on September 3, 1959 and he preceded her in death on September 15, 1999.
Joyce lived in Mill Village most of her life and retired in 1984 after many years working in the Erie area as a nurse’s aid and waitress. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, and traveling, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Suzanne Peck and Marion Decker, and a brother, Gerald Griffith.
Survivors include four children: Bonnie Sharrow and husband Benjamin of Guyton, GA, Edward Burkiewicz and wife Karis of Wessington Springs, SD, Michael Burkiewicz and wife Shawna of Erie, and Victoria Lord and husband Douglas of Mill Village; two step-children: Karen Trippy and husband Paul of Fredonia, NY, and Thomas Burkiewicz; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, a brother, Roy Griffith of San Jose, CA, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home of Waterford, 105 Walnut Street, on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and may attend funeral services there on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mill Village Cemetery.
