Philip Leighton Covel Jr., age 61, went to be with his eternal Father on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 19, 2011. Born in Erie on April 14, 1950, he was a son of the late Philip L. Covel Sr. and Frances Kuhns Rhodes.

After growing up in Erie, Mr. Covel entered the military and served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He graduated from the Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas, TX and over the next many years founded and served several churches. He loved his family and friends and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include three sons: James Flatley, Philip L. Covel III and his wife Julye of Valdosta, GA, and Gauge Covel of Clinton, IA; three daughters, all from Clinton, IA: Heather, April and Kali Covel; four grandchildren; six siblings: Sandy, Julie, Art, Jim, Scott and Merle; and several aunts and uncles.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Sterrettania Alliance Church, 650 West Road, McKean on Friday at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Mark Droll.
