Ugolina Eleanor Sperduti Szymkiewicz, age 82, passed away at her home, 19578 Greytown Hills Road, Cambridge Springs, PA on Saturday, June 4, 2011 following an extended illness. Born on February 10, 1929 in Aliquippa, PA, Eleanor was a daughter of the late Giovanni John Sperduti and Ludmilia “Emilie” Kotala Sperduti. On April 28, 1956 she married Eugene C. Szymkiewicz and he remains to mourn her loss.
Shortly after graduating from Aliquippa High School in 1947 Eleanor entered the West Penn Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh where she received her nursing degree in 1950. She reentered the work force as a Registered Nurse in 1977 at Spencer Hospital, Meadville (now Meadville Medical Center), retiring in 1991.
Eleanor was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Cambridge Springs and was active there in the Ladies Aide Society. She enjoyed attending Cambridge Springs Senior Citizens Center. Her interests at home were quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, basket weaving, reading and gardening.
Preceding Eleanor in death in addition to her parents was a sister – Elizabeth Orsillo, a brother – John Sperduti, and a nephew – John Sperduti, Jr. Family surviving Eleanor in addition to her husband of 55 years include two sons – Edward Szymkiewicz and his wife, Barb of Meadville; Steve Szymkiewicz and his wife, Maureen of Bethel Park, PA; three daughters – Emilie Hall and her husband, Wallace of Sewickley, PA; Susan Szymkiewicz of Cambridge Springs; and Mary Farkas and her husband, Matt of Tomball, TX. Also surviving are eight grandchildren – Crystal Caluori, Danielle Hohmann, Stephanie Szymkiewicz, Nicole Szymkiewicz, Danielle Hall, Teresa Hall, Meg Farkas, and Mathew Farkas; three great grandchildren – Brynn Caluori, Reese Caluori, and Vance Hohmann; and one sister – Violet Murphy.
Friends may call at the Van Matre family Funeral Home, 335 Venango Avenue, Cambridge Springs, PA on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday morning at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Cambridge Springs at 10:30 a.m. Reverend David Poulson, pastor of the Church will officiate. Morning prayers will be held at the Funeral Home prior to the Mass beginning at 10 o’clock. Interment will be in Cambridge Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Anthony Church, 165 Beach Avenue, Cambridge Springs, PA 16403, Cambridge Senior Citizens Center, 156 Venango Avenue, Cambridge Springs, PA 16403, the Oncology Wellness Center, 16792 Conneaut Lake Road, Meadville, PA 16335; or Hospice of Crawford County, 448 Pine Street, Meadville, PA 16335.

I worked with Eleanor for many years.She was one of the sweetest people i have ever known.Im sure she has a special place in heaven.My sincere sympathy to family
