Lewis (Louie) G. Borger, 88, of 16391 Center Road, Saegertown, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the Edinboro Manor, Edinboro after a short illness. Mr. Borger was born on December 22, 1922 in Salisbury, MD the son of G. Thomas Borger and Maryann Freeman Borger. He married the former Shirley Ann Barnes on October 12, 1944. Louie was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1941 until 1945. He served with the 86th Infantry “Blackhawks”?where he saw action in the European theater and near the end of the war in the occupied Philippines. He had retired from McQuillen Oldsmobile in 1983 after 20 years as manager of the auto body shop. He had also owned and operated Borger and Keep Collision of Lake City.
Mr. Borger belonged to the Cambridge Senior Center where he enjoyed playing euchre. He was also a member of Odd Fellows chapter 1125 of Lake City, VFW Post 169, Venango, and Meadville American Legion Post 0111. Lewis enjoyed being with people, making new friends and watching wildlife and birds.
Mr. Borger is survived by his wife, Shirley; a daughter – Joann Borger of Cambridge Springs; a son – Larry Lewis Borger of Huntsville, TX and a daughter – Debra and her husband, Stephen White of Saegertown. Surviving grandchildren include Carrie Pietrowski, Sherry Wygant, Jamie Moss, Weston Lewis Borger, Shelby Schneider and Marcie White. Lewis is survived also by four great grand children – Keith Pietrowski, Blaze Pietrowski, Jacob Wygant and Luke Wygant. In addition, two sisters also survive – Maxine Harvey and Josie Hetz, both of Fairview.
Friends are invited to visit at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 306 Erie St., Edinboro on Wednesday, July 20 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Odd Fellow services will be held, Wednesday evening at 7 PM. Funeral Services will be held there Thursday at 11 AM with the Rev. Ron Sheldon officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Carmel Freeman Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Cambridge Senior Center, 156 Venango Avenue, Cambridge Springs, 16403.
Sorry to hear about Louie. We sure had fun with him at the senior center.
