Robert E. (Bob) Dowler, age 88 of LeBoeuf Township, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Saint Vincent Health Center. Born in Edinboro on December 27, 1922, he was a son of the late Clyde E. and Ruth Isherwood Dowler.
Bob graduated from Edinboro High School, class of 1939, and attended Allegheny College, graduating in 1943. He was a dairy farmer, operating the family farm in LeBoeuf Township for most of his life.
Bob served as a past President and Director of the former Marine Bank in Edinboro, and was also very interested in the work of the Erie County Conservation District for many years. His involvement there included establishing the Headwater Trust and being influential in the construction of the present administration building. Bob’s dedication to the Conservation District has been honored by a plaque located in the administration building.
Bob enjoyed spending winters in North Fort Myers, FL with his wife, Loa Etta Barlett Dowler, whom he married October 10, 1964, and who survives. Other family members include his brother, Donald Dowler and his wife Dolores of Mill Village; a niece, Debra Campbell and her husband Kevin; two nephews, Dean Dowler and wife Fran, and David Dowler and wife Tracy; and seven great-nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Dowler and a sister-in-law, Jean Dowler.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home of Edinboro, 306 Erie Street, Edinboro on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm and may attend funeral services there on Friday morning at 11:00 am. Pastor Betty Hollabaugh of the Mill Village United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Waterford Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Headwater Trust, Erie County Conservation District, 1927 Wager Road, Erie, PA 16509.
