Michael Dennis Tong died September 29, 2011 of brain cancer. He was born in Erie on June 1, 1966, the son of Patricia (Mesich) Eckman and the late Dennis P. Tong. He was a graduate of McDowell High School (1984) and Triangle Tech (1986).
Michael worked in the tool and die industry for most of his adult life. He was always intrigued with knowing more and doing better in the field. Because of his passion for the industry, he steadily moved from drafter, to engineer, to plant manager. His final place of employment, Samtec, Inc., served as a place to explore his interests as well as a place where he felt part of a larger family. There he had the ability to grow as an individual by working with multiple national and global communities.
Certainly, he had many interests and achievements, but of most importance, Michael was a wonderful husband for 24 years. He was a dedicated father, a caring son, a loving big brother, and he was an incredibly loyal friend to so many. Michael was a person who loved life. He enjoyed his family and friends. His laugh was contagious and his concern for others was sincere. He was a committed Steeler, Indian and Penguin fan and enjoyed music and cuisine.
Left behind to carry on his legacy of love and kindness is his wife – Lisa (McGuire) Tong, his son – Dennis and his daughter – Julia. Michael leaves his mother – Patricia Eckman, his stepfather – Jack, his stepmother – Karen Shaw, and his sister – Michelle Tong. Finally, he leaves his sister-in-law – Mary Lee (McGuire) Tobin and his brother-in-law – Shawn McGuire who loved him dearly, as he did him.
A memorial service for friends and family will be held at McLane Church in Edinboro on Friday, October 7th at 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Yolando Barco Oncology Institute Benevolence Fund, 16792 Conneaut Lake Road, Meadville, PA 16335. Additionally, donations can be made to the Caringbridge which serves as an informational and support system during our journey.
Lisa & Family,
Mick was a great friend and I looked up to him because of his leadership in the workplace. I also enjoyed playing flag football and basketball with him. He will be sadly missed and he will always be in my thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely – The Karpinski’s (Joe, Missy, Zoey, Jordan)
