William Earl Brown, age 79, resident of Erie, PA since 1989 and formerly of North Ridgeville, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Saint Vincent Health Center, Erie, PA at 8:20 a.m., only hours after being admitted. Born on June 1, 1932 in Cambridge Springs, PA, he was a son of the late Orvis E. Brown and Marguerite Field Brown.
After serving in the National Guard in Germany, Bill returned home to marry Maybelle Marie Woolstrum on August 14, 1952. She preceded him in death on March 4th of this year. Bill was a machinist for the Chevrolet Transmission Plant in Brook Park, Oh from 1959 until his retirement in 1989. He enjoyed dirt tract racing and was often seen at the Erie Speedway. Another pleasure of his was watching the Western Television channel.
Family members surviving William include his son – Rodney William Brown and his wife, Susan C. of Saegertown; three grandchildren – Sanya and her husband, Michael; Chuck and his wife, Kristine; and Timothy and his wife, Cassandra; eight great grandchildren – Mikey, Megan, Matthew, Joshua, Nathan, Abigail, Debbie, and Katarina. Also four brothers survive- Edward Brown and his wife, Pauline of Cambridge Springs; Joseph Brown and his wife, Debbie of Cambridge Springs; James Brown and his wife, Edna of Ocala, FL; and Howard Brown and his wife, Hazel of Cambridge Springs; two sisters survive – Sandy j from Waterford and Ida Manning of Dunnellon, Fl. Preceding William in death in addition to his wife, Maybelle, are three brothers – Virgil J. Brown; Emory Brown; and Orvis Brown, Jr. and a sister – Dora Young.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. and are invited to attend graveside funeral services at Cambridge Cemetery Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Reverend John Miller, pastor of the New Ireland United Methodist Church, will officiate.
