Albert L. “Big Al” Miller, age 80 of Erie and formerly of Corry, died Friday, December 16, 2011 at Twinbrook Medical Center in Erie. Born January 13, 1931 on Turner Hill, Spring Creek Township, Warren County, he was the first born child of the late Everett L. Miller and Marie Wynn Miller Spencer.

Miller, Albert L. Mr. Miller was raised and educated in the Spring Creek, Columbus, and Corry areas. He served in the United States Army National Guard from 1950 to 1955, completed his basic training at Camp Atterberry, Indiana, and for a while was stationed in Germany with the 112th Infantry. He held the rank of Sergeant at the time of his honorable discharge and was a former member of the VFW Post 264 of Corry.

Upon returning to the States, Mr. Miller worked on the railroad for nine years and also farmed and worked at logging. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, reading his Bible, visiting his family, and entering sweepstakes contests. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and his pride and joy was a new green Cadillac, a gift from his first wife, Mary Popovich.

In addition to his wife Mary, he was also preceded in death by his second wife, Sarah Miller; three brothers– Clyde and Elton Miller, and Jim Spencer; two nephews and his grandparents.

Survivors include a brother, Walter Miller and his wife Kay of Corry; two sisters– Maxine Hulings and her husband Don of Centerville, and Patricia Ploss of Union City; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford on Tuesday morning starting at 10:00 am until the funeral service at 12:00 noon. Burial with military honors will be at West Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, PA.
