Dale J. Ross, age 77, resident of 425 South Main Street, Cambridge Springs, PA for the past 25 years, died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Rolling Fields Nursing Home in Conneautville where he had been an elder for only two days. Born in Meadville on March 10, 1934, he was a son of the late Donald Ross and Stella Brown Ross. On November 21, 1953 he married the former Patty Swift and she preceded him in death on April 21, 2009.
After Dale graduated from Meadville High School he entered the US Navy and served during the Korean War. Following his discharge, Dale returned to this area and soon became a plumber and steamfitter. He belong to Local 333/47 of Erie/Northwestern PA and served as a journeyman and superintendent. Dale retired in 1993 and enjoyed the hobbies of golf and woodworking. He coached Little League baseball in Venango during the 1960’s and early 1970’s and was a member of Venango VFW #169.
Family members surviving Dale include a daughter – Robin Smith of Cambridge Springs and a son – Dennis Ross and his wife, Regina of Saegertown; a brother – David Ross and his wife, Charla of Woodcock Boro; three grandchildren – Heather Smith of Cambridge Springs; Brad Smith and his wife, Heather of Edinboro; and Cory Ross and his wife, Jessica of Erie; three great grandchildren – Isaac Johnson of Cambridge Springs, Mathew Ross of Erie, and Peyton Smith of Edinboro. Also two nieces survive – Stacy Green and her husband, Dan of Edinboro and Stephanie Ross of Woodcock Boro and a good friend – Hazel Lydic of Cambridge Springs.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and from 7:00 to 9:00. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday morning at 11:00 with Reverend Christine Christine Rogan, pastor of Venango United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Gravel Run Cemetery, Woodcock Township.
Our sympathy to you, Robin and Dennis, as well as to your children and grandchildren, for your loss. Your dad was a striking figure and had a mellow, calm way about him. We hope that you will thankful in this Christmas season that your parents are both beyond suffering and at peace. Time, as we learned, will help, but know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers.

I had great respect for your mon & dad. Each year I stay at the Riverside Inn during the Crawford County Fair & I would try to visit them. This is a great loss for everyone.
