Irene Mae Massung, age 88, died at her residence 24230 State Hwy # 99, Cambridge Springs, PA on Saturday, March 24, 2012. She had been in failing health. Born on March 4, 1924, in Guys mills, PA, Irene was a daughter of the late Harold Hanks and Ethel Bain Hanks. She graduated from Randolph East Mead High School and worked for a short period of time before her marriage to George Massung on September 2, 1946. Upon marriage, Irene dedicated her life to providing a good home for her family. Her husband passed away on April 12, 1988.
Irene is survived by four children – Judy Anderson and her husband, John; Richard Massung and his wife, Chris; Tom Massung and his wife, Margaret; and Gary Massung and his wife, Karen. All are from Cambridge Springs except for Tom who resides in Gold Canyon, AZ. Surviving also are nine grandchildren – Tom Anderson and his wife, Dulcie of Cambridge Springs; Julie Knapka and her husband, John of Meadville; Scott Anderson and his wife, Aimee of Cambridge Springs; Christy Rynd and her husband, Brooks of Cochranton; Jeff Massung and his wife, Tammy of Meadville; Tracy Morrison and her husband, Ed of Cambridge Springs; Melissa Chiasera and her husband, August of Baltimore, MD; Kaitlyn Massung and Tiffany Speck both at home in Cambridge Springs. Surviving also are 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild – Alivia Joslin.
Friends may visit at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Monday evening from 7- 9 and also are invited to funeral services there on Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Mitchell Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be given to Hospice of Crawford County , 448 Pine Street, Meadville, PA 16335 or Cambridge Springs Volunteer Fire Department, 302 Venango Ave., Cambridge Springs 16403.
