Rose M. Scouten, age 88, formerly of McKean, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Golden Living Center – Western Reserve in Erie, where she had resided only the last two weeks. Born in Pittsfield, PA on April 25, 1924, she was one of eleven children of the late Stanley and Nellie Dyjak Kusiak.

Scouten, Rose M.Rose lived most of her life in McKean and later moved to Erie. She was a homemaker, mother and grandmother who loved her home and enjoyed cooking. She was always able to make new friends as she pursued her hobby of collecting antiques and refinishing furniture. When she lived in McKean she belonged to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, and currently she was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Erie.

Rose married Cleon D. Scouten on November 22, 1947, and he died January 2, 1989. She is also preceded in death by a son, Brian Scouten on March 8, 1985; three sisters- Stella Wolfe, Helen Sevok, and Ann J. Smolinsky; and seven brothers- Johnny, Louis, Mike, Henry, Joseph, Thomas, and Leo Kusiak.

Scouten, Rose M.Family members that survive include three children- Brenda Houghton and her husband Mike of Erie, Bruce Scouten and his wife Rose of McKean, and Carolyn Dzara and her husband Greg, also of McKean; 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law- Mary Lou Kusiak, Jane Kusiak, Pat Kusiak, and Clarabelle Clark; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Gathering Space of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in McKean on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. The funeral mass will be there Saturday at 11:00am officiated by Rev. Fr. Mark Nowak. Interment will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to a favorite charity.
