Mabel E. Donaldson, age 100, formerly of Mill Village and Summit Township, died Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Independence Court of Erie where she resided for the past two years. Born in Union City on March 24, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Eugene and Nina Edson Lewis.
Mabel was a longtime active member of Draketown Christian Church in Edinboro and its Women’s organization. She also belonged to the Waterford Garden Club and was very skilled at sewing, crocheting and knitting. Over the years she handcrafted many gifts for family and friends.
Mabel outlived three husbands– Melvin Cole, Isaac Koon, and Francis Donaldson. She was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Cole, and two sisters, Mildred Umstead and Grace Baumbach.
Surviving family members include four sons– Ralph Cole and his wife Donna of East Springfield, and Ray Cole and his wife Bea, Richard Cole and his wife Susie, and Robert Cole and his wife Nancy, all of Union City; a step-son, Jack Koon and his wife Jane of Edinboro; a brother, Ralph Lewis of Waterford; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford. The funeral service will be there Saturday morning at 10:00 am officiated by Pastor Ronald Kennedy. Burial will follow in Mill Village Cemetery.
