I remember Uncle Maynard and his invites to his home and church when I was a young man. My Mom always had warm and kind things to say about him and Uncle Jim. The few times we had talked, I grew as a young man and am the better for it. Aunt Joyce, we offer up to you and the family our deepest love and prayers.

I wish to extend my sympathy to Lillian and the family. As a cousin in Virginia, I remember Lillian and Maynard’s always pleasant visits and the abiding love and interest that my Mother, Eula Southworth, expressed so often as the years slipped by. It is my hope that the faith that he imparted will sustain you in this time of sadness. Shirley
Grandpa Maynard has been in my life for over 30 years, He should through example what a family was about. He lived his life loving god and wanting all of us around him to do the same. Although I was his step-granddaughter those words have never escaped his mouth or that of his family. There was never a doubt in our mind that he loved each one of us! To say he was a character is a understatement, I will have the memories forever of evenings at the cabin, family holidays, stories of the old day’s,his love for molasses cookies with butter on them and most of all there were many mornings of observing him read his morning devotions before starting his day. I am thankful for the times that my husband John and son Josh have spent with Grandpa and Grandma Lil. I know that one day we will see him in Heaven, till then we will have all of the dear memories. Thanks for being my Grandpa! I will always love you.
Maynard, or Gramps as the Burns kids called him, as a wonderful Godly man. Many times he and Lillian would have the youth group from the church over for parties, swimming, camping, & bond fires. Those were memorable times that I will never forget. I still have the Bible he and Lillian gave me when I went away to college. He always had a ready hearty laugh and loved to joke around. I have always had the greatest respect for both Maynard and Lillian. He will be greatly missed, and we are all greatly saddened at his loss. We pray God’s presence to surround Lillian and her family at this time of grief.
God Bless,
David Burns
